A Closer Look to Understanding AIDS

Today, is the very first of December. As we start the festive and the holidays, and as we face the importance of this much awaited month, we have to also create and build a strong awareness on the issue of HIV/AIDS, as the world celebrates World AIDS Day at this very day.

“HIV/AIDS has now become a pandemic that has literally put the world at risk, affecting diverse populations in different ways”. –Dr. Nora Volkow, NIDA Director

Today is another day to create global awareness about HIV/AIDS that would present an opportunity for all of us - people worldwide to unite and build a strong stand in the fight against these pandemic diseases.

There have been an increase in number of people who are living with HIV or worst AIDS, and it continues to rise in every part of the world. HIV/AIDS has been a global epidemic... a real global epidemic that has affected millions of lives already. Despite of being so widespread, misconceptions about these diseases and how they are spread are still rampant. Most people, if not all, have just little idea or should I say have no idea at all, about how they could get HIV/AIDS, and I would set myself as an example. Thus, this acts as a major obstacle to its effective prevention. Making matters worse than expected is the stigma which is attached to it, with entire families being excluded just because they happen to have HIV/AIDS.

Remember that there's still no cure for AIDS, so it would be best for one to enhance his awareness of the issue and protect himself.

The time is now. Together, we can prevent the spread of this pandemic – through awareness, care, prevention, education and research.

DONA NOBIS PACEM: Grant Us Peace!

DONA NOBIS PACEM... GRANT US PEACE...

PEACE... is just a simple word yet connotes a HUGE meaning.

But what is really peace all about?

Understanding peace is just like understanding your own self and understanding others. So in order for you to better understand it, you should really have state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others where respect is gained.

Many different theories of "peace" exist in this world which involves the study of conflict resolution, disarmament, and cessation of violence. The definition of "peace" alone may vary with one's religion, culture, tradition, country, or even one's opinion.

Since I was born and have had my knowledge about the world and everything, peace had always been the issue in different parts the world. It has always been one of the greatest challenge for mankind and a dream that has yet to be fulfilled...

We use the word 'peace' a great deal. And more often, we connect peace with the context of war... war that really causes suffering, death and destruction on a huge scale. But peace is not only about war and relations between nations. Peace is a way of life — not that we are always the peaceful people we wish to be, but that we choose peace as a basic direction in which we are attempting to move.

All of us are subject to help peace happen — in our families, in our work places, in our neighborhoods, and in the wider world. Anything we do that draws us closer to each other, that inspires forgiveness, or that brings about real dialogue is considered a work for peace.

Peace work is healing work. In fact, this is one way of defining peace. Peace work is what we do to repair damaged relationships — healing between ourselves and God, healing between one person and another, healing between divided communities and nations. Those who work for peace are in fact working for healing.

So let us all work hand in hand... let us achieve our common goals of peace... let us be united for once and for all... The change is just in our hands.

GRANT US PEACE...
