Today is a holiday. Declared as a national Holiday. Wonder why?
Today actually marks the end of this year`s holy month of Ramadan for all my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. This is the culmination of the month-long fast which is so special and sacred to us.
For a bit of information, this special day signals not only the end of Ramadan but the start of the Islamic festival 'Eidil Fitri.' It`s usually called "Hari Raya Eidil Fitri" which is one of the highlights of the muslim cultural and religious calendar. It is celebrated at the end of the month of fasting or better known as Ramadan, when the new moon is sighted. The Malay words 'Hari Raya' translates as the 'Day of Celebration' and 'Hari Raya Eidil Fitri' as the 'Day of Celebration or the Festival of Breaking the Fast.' Within this day, fellow muslims usually gather together and attend Eid prayers in mosque early in the morning since it is said to be the birth of the new moon of Syawal, the 10th month of Islamic Calendar.
I don`t wanna elaborate more about this day since I don`t want to be mistaken. For all you know, all facts I have written above are so far those things that I could still remember from what my Islam Religious Studies teacher had taught me before, way back in college... and so far those are the only things that I`m sure of.
Anyway, it`s time to celebrate and enjoy my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. "Happy Hari Raya Eidil Fitri." And may peace be amongst us all since it is the true meaning of what we are celebrating today. May Allah Bless us all! Allahhu Akbar!
